Gastric Balloon Surgery in Ireland
|
by David Keogh, March 25th, 2014
In recent years, the gastric balloon has taken off in Ireland as a realistic option for people wanting to lose weight, having tried other methods and failed. Within Auralia Weight Loss Clinic, we have observed the number of enquiries rising, as we continue to produce exceptional results for our patients. Many of these enquiries are from friends and family of other patients, meaning that we can rely on word of mouth, being confident that we are providing our patients with the highest standards of care!

Gastric Band or Gastric Balloon?
|
by David Keogh, March 4th, 2014
We get quite a number of enquiries from patients who are unsure whether they would be more suited towards a gastric band program or a gastric balloon program. Most of the these enquiries are made from people that don’t know the differences between both programs, so I have decided to outline the main differences in this blog.
A gastric balloon is a non-surgical procedure during which a deflated balloon is passed down into the stomach through the mouth, where it is then inflated. During this time, the patient is given a mild sedative, but they are not under general anaesthetic. The procedure usually takes around 15-20 minutes and the patient can go home a few hours later.

Why choose Auralia Weight Loss Clinic?
|
by David Keogh, February 5th, 2014
Almost all patients will question why they should choose Auralia Weight Loss Clinic when deciding on a gastric band procedure. With this in mind, I have outlined a number of reasons why we believe that we are the benchmark for gastric band programs in Ireland.
Irish Made, Irish Owned:
Auralia Weight Loss Clinic is an Irish company! We are a division of Auralia Cosmetic Enhancement, Ireland’s number one cosmetic surgery clinic, which has been successfully carrying out procedures in Ireland for more than 10 years. We own our own private hospital in Dublin, along with two other clinics in Limerick and Kilkenny. All of our procedures and after-care is carried out on our own premises, by our own team! All of our doctors are fully registered with the Irish Medical Council and many of them hold positions on advisory boards for governing bodies with regards to weight loss surgery.

Eating in Restaurants and Drinking Alcohol with a Gastric Band
|
by David Keogh, December 15th, 2013
A very common question we hear from patients when first enquiring about our gastric band program is “Can I still go out to restaurants and enjoy my meals?” It’s also quite common to be asked “Can I still have a few drinks?” To address both questions quickly, the answer to both is yes, of course!

What Happens in a Gastric Band Consultation?
|
by David Keogh, September 27th, 2013
Here at Auralia Weight Loss Clinic we understand that most patients are extremely anxious about coming to their initial gastric band consultation. This is completely understandable, after all, deciding to have gastric band surgery is not an easy decision to make. Many patients come in not knowing what to expect. With this in mind, I have decided to focus this blog around what actually happens during your first gastric band consultation.

What Can I Eat After Gastric Band Surgery?
|
by David Keogh, September 11th, 2013
One of the most common questions we get from patients during consultations is “what can I eat afterwards?” . Many patients assume that they will be on a very strict diet of specific foods each day, which they cannot break no matter what. This belief is entirely untrue!

|
by David Keogh, June 20th, 2013
We are regularly asked the question of why a patient should stay in Ireland and have their gastric band surgery with Auralia Weight Loss Clinic, rather than going over-seas to have it done. For this reason, I have decided to point out what I believe to be the benefits of this.

The Benefits of Weight Loss after a Gastric Band
|
by David Keogh, May 1st, 2013
Most people, when thinking about the benefits of weight loss, instantly think about health. Indeed, it has been proven time and time again that losing even 10% of your excess weight can play a huge role in preventing or hugely assisting with the management of illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, heart disease, high cholesterol, incontinence, infertility and depression. However, we have observed more so than anything else, that patients speak about their improved quality of life after weight loss.

Our Philosophy
|
by David Keogh, January 1st, 2013
When it comes to weight loss procedures, I believe that the patients have a different mentality to patients having other procedures. With many other procedures the results are almost instant and involve only a couple of visits to the clinic. Weight loss procedures are different. We understand that something as simple as making the initial enquiry to the clinic can be a far bigger step for weight loss patients to make. In the majority of cases, the patient has been considering this small step for a very long time and has built up allot of courage to finally say “I need help”.

Gastric Band Information
|
by David Keogh, July 17th, 2012
One of the most queried aspects of our gastric band program seems to be the day of surgery. I am always asked the same questions “Will I be awake? How long does the surgery last? Do I get cut open? Will I be in pain? When can I get out of bed again? How long do I stay off work? Do I need to stay overnight?” So here are your answers.
